OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Somerset Governor Services is located within the Raising Achievement Division of the Children’s Services Directorate.  Our aim is to enhance leadership and management in schools in order to support the raising of educational achievement and improve the life chances for all young people in the County.   We work alongside School Improvement Partners (SIPs) and School Improvement Advisors (SIAs) to enhance leadership and management in schools.  Much of what we do relates to ensuring that governing bodies are effective and that they are meeting statutory requirements and providing appropriate challenge and support to their schools.  In order to meet the needs of governing bodies, we work openly with a variety of other organisations including the Diocese of Bath & Wells and the Diocese of Clifton.  As a responsive and pro-active Service we regularly review our practice in order to maintain a high quality of service and support.

Somerset Governor Services, based at County Hall in Taunton, offers advice and development opportunities to governors and clerks in Somerset schools.
